Audi Crooks and Jada Williams paced Iowa State’s with 28 and 26 points respectively in Wednesday’s 90-64 win over Arizona State. In her first game since Jan. 4 against Baylor, Addy Brown scored six points, pulled down seven rebounds, dished out six assists and blocked a field goal attempt by Sun Devil forward McKinna Brackens.

With the win, the Cyclones improved to 21-6 overall and 9-6 in Big 12 play. Arizona State fell to 21-7 overall and 8-7 in conference play a under first-year head coach Molly Miller.

Iowa State turned a slim 6-4 disadvantage at the 8:09 mark in the first quarter before responding with an 8-0 run. The Sun Devils hung tough with ISU late in the first quarter, trailing by two (17-15) at the 2:07-mark following a triple by Deborah Davenport.

The Cyclones pushed the lead to 21-15 at the end of the first quarter following a layup by Alisa Williams. Arizona State whittled an eight point Cyclone lead to two with 7:29 remaining in the second quarter, the closest the visitors got the remainder of the game. Iowa State maintained a minimum of a five point lead and a maximum of a 10 point lead and went into halftime up 42-32. Sun Devil Martina Fantini picked up her fourth foul with 57 seconds remaining in the first half. 

The Cyclones shot 16-of-27 from the field in the first half, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. Jada Williams scored 16 points in the first 20 minutes and Crooks scored a dozen.

Iowa State saw their lead drop to seven points, 50-43, at the 4:55 mark of the third quarter. The Cyclones closed the third stanza on a 19-2 run, finalized by a jumper by Crooks which beat the buzzer. The first 3:15 of the fourth quarter saw Iowa State go on a 11-2 run and led by a game high 33 points. An 80-59 lead, 21 points, was as close as Arizona State got. With 70 seconds remaining, Lilly Taulelei finalized the scoring tally on the night with a second-chance layup.

The Cyclones shot 53.2 percent (33-of-62) from the field and went 50 percent (8-of-16) from three-point kand and 16-of-22 (72.7 percent) from the free throw line. Iowa State recorded a 39-32 rebounding advantage and a 44-24 scoring advantage in the paint. Meanwhile, the Sun Devils shot 36.1 percent (22-of-61) from the field and just 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from beyond the arc.

Brackens led the Sun Devils with a team-high 21 points. She posted three rebounds along with two assists and two steals.

The Cyclones return to action on Sunday as they play at No. 12 TCU, tip is scheduled for 3 p.m.
