PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — A night Avery Tibbs will likely never forget.

Tibbs scored 27 points to lead top-ranked Washington to a 61-37 win over No. 2 Galesburg for a 3A sectional title at Thiel Gymnasium on Thursday. The win sends the Panthers (31-2) to the Kankakee super-sectional Monday where a win over Providence Catholic advances Washington to state for a second straight year.

Tibbs’ final basket gave her 2,090 points and pushed her to the top spot on Washington’s career scoring list, passing Maggie Krick Mose who was in attendance at the game in Galesburg. The Panthers finished third at state last March.

Other area winners in sectional title games included Dee-Mack (class 1A), Pontiac (class 2A) and Tri-Valley (class 2A). Richwoods (4A), Havana (1A) and Midland (1A) lost in their sectional title games.
