Ozzy Hanks gets 100th win; Gabe Morin still alive in Class 3A tournament

Feb. 27—ST. PAUL — Ozzy Hanks got a milestone win at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul on Friday.

Wrestling in the Class 3A 107-pound consolation bracket, Hanks picked up his 100th win after defeating Owatonna's Miles Aase in a 4-0 decision, and Shakopee's Patrick Heim in a 16-0 technical fall.

Meanwhile, Gabe Morin (133 pounds) won his quarterfinal match against Elk River's Walker Gaulrapp in a close 6-3 decision, becoming the only Lumberjack advance to the semifinal. He will face St. Michael-Albertville's Brody Bergeron on Saturday.

Bemidji had three wrestlers fail to make it past the quarterfinal. Nick Strand (139 pounds) lost to STMA's Chase Mills in a 10-6 decision, but he's still alive for third place, having pinned Roseville's Rowan Cariveau in his first consolation bracket match.

In the 285-pound quarterfinal, Nehemiah Schwinghammer lost to Woodbury's Mitchell Folks 16-2 in a major decision. He's also still alive for third place after beating Andover's Jack Pena in a 14-3 major decision in his first consolation bracket match.

Taylor Merschman lost a 10-5 decision to Owatonna's Lucinda Ornelas in the girls 106-pound quarterfinal. She wound up losing to Chatfield's Emily Bova in the consolation bracket, ending her weekend at GCA.

Brenalen Fredriksen-Holm (112 pounds) and Mercy McIntyre (235) are also out of their consolation brackets after losses Friday. Fredriksen-Holm got pinned in 1:34 by Glencoe-Lester Prairie's Dayna Kielty. McIntyre lost in a 5-3 decision to Dover-Eyota's Peytin Welsh.
