The New York Giants are expected to cut linebacker Bobby Okereke, reports The Athletic's Dan Duggan at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The expectation is the Giants will cut inside linebacker Bobby Okereke, which will create $9 million in cap savings. Replacing Okereke with a stud middle linebacker will become a top priority.

Okereke, a defensive captain for all three of his seasons with the Giants since signing a four-year, $40 million deal in 2023, has been a durable and productive presence in the middle of the defense. He led the team in tackles in two of those years, including 143 in 2025, while starting every game and playing nearly every defensive snap.

As the defensive quarterback, he provided leadership and football IQ, earning praise even as the team transitioned under new head coach John Harbaugh, whom Okereke described as "a man with a plan."

However, with the Giants facing tight salary-cap constraints—projected at under $1 million to less than $8 million in various reports—and a need to prioritize upgrades in the trenches and secondary, the move aligns with broader roster reshaping.

Cutting the 29-year-old veteran would generate immediate savings, though it leaves the linebacker corps thin and underscores a shift toward potentially more physical or scheme-fitting options at the position, influenced by Harbaugh's Ravens background.
