Are Bengals one of the teams calling Bears about trades?

While most of the conversations around the Cincinnati Bengals deal with NFL free agency, Duke Tobin and Co. might just be a threat to make a trade or two.

Don’t laugh: Yes, the Bengals are usually pretty conservative in how they navigate offseasons. But the common theme since the season ended was the failure around building the defense properly last year and a clear desire to fix that in a hurry.

The ball got rolling on this when they didn’t hit Trey Hendrickson with the $30.2 million tag. That means spreading the money across the entire defense.

Rather than engage in bidding wars, the Bengals could always look to a team like the Chicago Bears for help via trade.

Just last month, Jordan Schultz said the Bears were getting calls about defensive lineman Gervon Dexter:

And Thursday, those Bears pulled off a blockbuster trade with the Bills, so they’re clearly wheeling and dealing before the market opens next week.

Dexter would certainly make sense. The Bengals need help rushing the passer from the interior. BJ Hill will be back in 2026, but TJ Slaton feels like a cut candidate. They have yet to get or see enough from Kris Jenkins Jr.

Realistically, the Bengals will rebuild the defense through a mixture of free agents, draft picks and trades. Something like a move for Dexter would potentially fit what they want to do.
