The 4-star small forward chose the Crimson Tide on Thursday, March 5, but earlier that day, 247Sports published an article incorrectly reporting Richardson chose Creighton over Alabama, Ole Miss and USC.
After refuting a claim by On3 insider Joe Tipton that suggested Crimson Tide staff didn't prioritize his son, Jason Richardson took to social media to clear up misinformation surrounding Jaxon and the Bluejays.
"A recruiting service jumped the gun thinking they had inside information," Jason Richardson, a 14-year NBA veteran, wrote.
Richardson said "the truth" was that the race between Creighton and Alabama was "extremely tight," and he found both programs were "great options" for Jaxon.
Creighton first offered the Southeastern Prep (Florida) senior in May 2025. Meanwhile, the Crimson Tide beat the Bluejays to the punch long before in July 2023.
Last thing I’ll say about @Jaxrich2342 commitment to Alabama. A recruiting service jumped the gun thinking they had inside information. The truth is, it was an extremely tight race between Creighton and Alabama, and in my opinion both schools were great options for him.…

"Personally, going through this process myself and having my wife by my side for most of that journey, especially now in the NIL era, we’ve always taught our kids that basketball decisions should be about basketball, not money or anything else. This was solely Jaxon’s decision," Richardson wrote.
Before going to the pros, Richardson won a national title with Michigan State, where he played from 1999-2001.
"He chose a place where he feels comfortable, where he believes he can win, develop, and have a great college career. As his dad, I couldn’t be any prouder to see him make a decision based on those things. #RollTide," Richardson continued.
