Arsenal could sacrifice a key star this summer to meet financial rules

Premier League leaders Arsenal may be forced to sell a key player in the summer to comply with financial rules.

Arsenal facing financial decisions

Arsenal could be forced to sell one of their main players during the summer transfer window as the club works to balance its finances.

According to The Telegraph, internal discussions are taking place about which player could bring the highest transfer fee. The club is studying whether selling one major player will be enough or if more departures will be required from the squad of head coach Mikel Arteta.

Heavy spending raises financial pressure

Arsenal spent around £268 million in transfer fees since the end of their last financial year to strengthen the squad. The club is also expected to add £45 million more after deciding to make the move of Piero Hincapie permanent from Bayer Leverkusen following his loan spell.

Like all clubs in the Premier League, Arsenal must follow strict financial rules set by both the English Football Association and UEFA. To stay within Financial Fair Play regulations, the club may need to reduce its spending by selling players.

Odegaard among possible departures

One of the most surprising names linked with a possible exit is team captain Martin Odegaard. The Norwegian playmaker remains a key figure in Arteta’s team but selling him could generate a large transfer fee.

After five season at the club, Arsenal have already paid the full cost of his transfer from Real Madrid. This means any future sale would largely count as profit helping the club close the current financial gap.

Other players who could leave include Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, and Ben White, although their sales might not bring the same financial impact.
