Now in its second year, the Alex 10K has quickly gained momentum following a three-year partnership between the Adreach Group and the Run Alex Athletics Club.
Promoting sport and community development
The initiative aims to revive road running events in Alexandra while boosting local tourism under the theme “Explore Alex on Foot.”
According to the Presidency, the race serves a broader purpose beyond athletics.
Funds raised will support grassroots operations of the running club and contribute to the Read Alex Project – a Saturday initiative focused on improving literacy and educational outcomes for children in the community.
Strong growth in participation
The event has seen significant growth since its launch:
- 2024: 1 400 participants
- 2025: 2 220 participants (a 58% increase)
Organisers expect more than 3 000 runners to take part in this year’s race.
Showcasing Alexandra
Beyond competition, the race offers participants an opportunity to experience Alexandra’s rich history and vibrant community, reinforcing its role as both a sporting and cultural event.
Paul Mashatile’s participation is expected to draw further attention to the initiative, underscoring the importance of sport in driving social development and community upliftment.
