AN EASTER TO FORGET FOR CHILDCARE AND DISABILITY BENEFICIARIES
Rumours and misinformation have filled the yawning gap left by SASSA’s silence. Image: FileLast week, agency spokesperson Andile Tshona explained that ‘administrative issues’ had plagued its ability to publish final April 2026 pay dates. Basically, the agency said it was waiting on confirmation from the National Treasury before it confirmed payment dates for the 2026/2027 financial year.
However, a lack of communication from the agency allowed misinformation to fill the gap and spread alarm to beneficiaries. The South African noted dozens of fake websites purporting to have official SASSA payment dates for April 2026. While Tshona urged grants recipients that they would receive their grants as per usual, once the administrative issues were resolved.
DISAPPOINTMENT OVER OFFICIAL SASSA PAYMENT DATES FOR APRIL 2026
The agency pegged annual increases to 3.4% inline with inflation. However, beneficiaries believe this is way too low. Image: FileTo add insult to injury to official SASSA payment dates for April 2026, beneficiaries are not happy with their miserly 3.4% annual increases. Old-Age, Disability, War Veterans and Care Dependency increase by just R80. Therefore, to R2 400 (up from R2 320) and R2 420 (up from R2 340), respectively.
While Child Support increases by just R20 to R580. And Foster Child increases by a mere R40 to R1 290. And this is compounded yet again by the fact that – for whatever reason – the latter grants will only be paid after the Easter long weekend, on Wednesday 8 April 2026.
But what do you think? Have you been waiting patiently for April 2026 pay dates? If so, why do you think agency decided to split them either side of the Easter long weekend? Be sure to share your thoughts with our audience in the comments section below …
