Analyst selects Jaguars best and worst free agency moves

What was the best offseason move made by the Jacksonville Jaguars?

Zoltan Buday of Pro Football Focus recently answered that question for each NFL team. Considering it was such a quiet free agency period for the Jaguars, there's not a lot to choose from, and the answer to the above question is quite obvious -- re-signing Montaric Brown.

"Towards the end of the 2025 campaign, he was practically Jacksonville’s best cornerback in coverage," wrote Buday. "He allowed a 69.3 passer rating, and his 74.0 PFF coverage grade ranked 21st among 109 qualifying cornerbacks."

Brown took a big step forward last season, showcasing his abilities to start on a weekly basis and perform at a high level while doing so. He allowed a completion rate of just 54% on 68 targets and held opponents to just 10.4 yards per catch.

Brown also flashed impressive ball production, coming away with two interceptions and forcing nine pass breakups.

His return also solidifies the top of the Jaguars' starting cornerback depth chart. No longer is drafting this position right away a must.

"When the [opportunity] presented itself again and he was available, he didn't flinch," James Gladstone said of Brown. "And that carried through the course of the season and he made plays — plays on the ball, plays on ball carriers that really made an important dent on the outcome of a number of our games. And the marriage between the scheme, his skill set, it's a match that all of us are constantly looking for at every position."

Buday also highlighted his least favorite move for each NFL team, but did not make a selection in that category when it came to the Jaguars, given their overall lack of free agency moves.

This free agency plan was in large part taken by the Jaguars in an effort to preserve the 2027 compensatory draft picks they are projected to earn. ESPN's Ben Solak was a big fan of this approach.
