A California man accused of killing his wife and mother-in-law has now been charged with murdering his mistress’ boyfriend.

Howard Wang, 43, was charged last year with the murder of his wife, Linlin Guo, and mother-in-law, Beimin Cheng, after they were found dead in their home in Walnut Creek, Calif., on Sept. 18, 2025.

Police alleged Wang slashed the throats of his wife and his mother-in-law, fired two shots from his handgun and fabricated a story to investigators about a fleeing intruder who was responsible for the slayings, CBS News reported.

The couple’s twin eight-year-old daughters were reportedly home at the time and were unharmed.

Wang’s mistress, Yan Wang, 45, who isn’t related to him, was arrested two weeks later after allegedly breaking into the family’s residence a day after his arrest to steal evidence from the home, the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office said in a press release .

The DA’s Office said that the mistress also “aided Howard Wang with knowledge following the murders and with intent to help him avoid arrest, trial, conviction, and punishment,” and “destroyed cellphones to prevent evidence from being produced.”

The mistress faces charges of being an accessory after the fact, first-degree residential burglary, and destroying evidence.

Man allegedly involved in another murder a year earlier

Now, the accused double-murderer faces more charges as the DA’s Office believe he was also involved in the 2024 killing of his mistress’ boyfriend.

The DA’s Office announced the new murder charge in a press release on Monday, accusing Howard Wang of plotting and carrying out the murder of 41-year-old Chengli Li with another man.

The co-accused, Demarques James Pearl, 33, is a former Crips gang member in L.A. who was allegedly paid by Wang, according to a Bay Area News Group report.

Prosecutors claim the two accused plotted the murder before travelling together from the Bay Area to Los Angeles County on June 7, 2024.

The next day, Li was shot and killed outside his apartment in San Gabriel, Calif.

The two accused allegedly ambushed the victim near his home, fatally shot him, and fled the scene.

Howard Wang is expected to be arraigned on April 14 for the additional murder charge, while Pearl has been charged with homicide.
