Key Stories to Watch

  • The Avalanche bounced back from an embarrassing loss against the last-place Vancouver Canucks by shutting out the Dallas Stars on the road for their 50th win of the season. Scott Wedgewood made 17 saves to earn his third shutout, meaning Mackenzie Blackwood will likely get the nod against the St. Louis Blues.
  • We will likely see the same Avalanche lineup as the one that defeated the Stars on Saturday, aside from the goalie change. Colorado is 24-8-5 at home, but just 1-4-1 in its last six games.
  • The Blues enter the matchup well out of the playoff picture. Only five points separate them from the second wildcard spot, but four teams are ahead of them in the race. St. Louis, however, has played better as of late, going 6-2-2 in its last 10 games.
  • Now with St. Louis, Jonathan Drouin is set to make his second return to Ball Arena since leaving the Avs last summer. Drouin had 14 points in 17 games with the Islanders when he came to town in November. His season unraveled and he was eventually traded to the Blues in a deal that sent Brayden Schenn the other way. Since that game in Denver on Nov. 16, Drouin has just one goal and seven assists in 43 games.
