Hagens is a skilled forward who can play anywhere in the top nine and add some more offense to the Bruins' lineup. Yet, Bruins analyst Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic believes Hagens will slot into the third line alongside Marat Khusnutdinov and Fraser Minten.
“After signing his NHL entry-level contract on Wednesday, it could be that James Hagens will get his third-line opportunity as soon as Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The 19-year-old had six games of AHL throat-clearing, scoring one goal and four points for Providence.
“Hagens’ game centers on speed, acceleration and puck transportation. If Hagens debuts on the No. 3 line, the Bruins will have hair-blowing speed on the wings with Khusnutdinov on the right side."
Hagens would add some more depth to the Bruins' forward group and secondary scoring to the lineup. However, head coach Marco Sturm has yet to announce where Hagens will play in the lineup, but he’s expected to make his NHL debut on Saturday at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Boston selected Hagens seventh overall in the 2025 NHL Draft.
The Bruins are currently 43-26-10 and holding onto the top Wild Card spot.
