Pensacola area high school sports postseason recap April 9

The high school sports postseason continues in the Pensacola area. Below is a recap of the action from April 9, which featured boys lacrosse district quarterfinals and the District 1-2A boys weightlifting championship.

Boys Lacrosse

District 1-2A quarterfinals

No. 2 Navarre 20, No. 7 Lincoln 1

The Raiders dominated the Trojans (2-14) to advance to the district semifinals. The Raiders (14-3) will host No. 3 Gulf Breeze in the District 1-2A semifinals on April 11 at 6 p.m.

Gulf Breeze beat Navarre 15-2 on March 11.

No. 3 Gulf Breeze 19, No. 6 Milton 0

Landon Pickrell scored five goals and dished out three assists to lead the Dolphins into the district semifinals. Ben Cozart and Wesley Morrill scored four goals each.

Gulf Breeze led 13-0 at halftime and recorded its third shutout of the season.

Gulf Breeze (8-7) will play at No. 2 Navarre in the District 1-2A semifinals at 6 p.m.

Milton (11-7) is eliminated and its season is over. The Panthers needed to win the district tournament to qualify for the state playoffs.

District 1-1A quarterfinals

No. 4 Fort Walton Beach 16, No. 5 West Florida 1

West Florida (2-15) is eliminated and its season is over. The Jaguars had to win the district tournament to qualify for the state playoffs.

Fort Walton Beach (6-8) will play at No. 1 South Walton in the District 1-1A semifinals on April 10 at 7 p.m.

No. 3 Booker T. Washington 18, No. 6 North Bay Haven 6

Brayton Mager totaled four goals and four assists to lead the Wildcats into the district semifinals and clinch their first season with double digit wins since 2017.

Henry Minard recorded five goals and two assists and Donivan Alexander added a goal and four assists. Hal Frederickson scored a hat trick and dished out an assist. Carson Juszczyk made seven saves in goal.

Booker T. Washington (10-4) will play at No. 2 Pensacola Catholic in the District 1-1A semifinals on April 10 at 7 p.m.

Boys Weightlifting

District 1-2A championship (Fort Walton Beach HS)

West Florida finished as district runner-up in both the Olympic and traditional categories.

The Jaguars totaled 45 points in Olympic and 41 points in traditional. Choctawhatchee swept both district titles, winning the Olympic category with 89 points and the traditional category with 86 points.

West Florida's Long Hoang (199 pounds) swept both district titles in his weight class. Pine Forest's Julian Smith (119) and West Florida's Zane Grimes (169) won Olympic district titles. Booker T. Washington's Kyle Mager (139), West Florida's Jairus Bailey (238) and Escambia's Justus Payne (Unlimited) won traditional district titles.

Below are is a complete list of area weightlifters who finished in the top 10. District champions automatically qualify for regionals, while those who finish in the top 10 are eligible for at-large bids. The Region 1-2A championship will take place April 25 at Panama City Arnold.
