Don't let that distract you from the fact that Spurs guard Stephon Castle is off to a historic start to his NBA career.
This was Castle's second NBA season, and he pretty much increased his averages across the board.
In 2025-26, Castle put up:
- 16.7 PPG
- 5.3 RPG
- 7.4 APG
- 47.1 FG%
- 33.2 3FG%
- 73.4 FT%
- 1.1 SPG

Those were all increases on his rookie season numbers. And they also helped him join a rare group in league history.
Before Castle, just three players in NBA history had averaged 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists on 45% shooting in a season before turning 22 years old, according to The Lead.
The first to do it was Magic Johnson -- he actually did it twice (18/7.7.7.3 as a rookie, 21.6/8.6/8.6 the next season).
LeBron James did it himself in his second year in the league at 27.2/7.4/7.2.
And then Luke Doncic did it twice, first with 28.8/9.4/8.8 and then with 27.7/8.0/8.6.

Yes, Castle is on the lower end of these averages by a bit compared to the all-time greats, but he's still joined this club.
He certainly seems like the ideal running mate for Wemby. And now into the postseason as the West's No. 2 seed, the Spurs could make some serious noise.
