Alec Bohm Not Expected to Lose At-Bats, Despite Fans Wanting It to Happen

The Philadelphia Phillies have been a rather average team to start the 2026 campaign, a very unfortunate scenario for a team that needed to get going in a very tough National League East.

The National League East is viewed as one of the best divisions in Major League Baseball for a reason, and while the Phillies haven't put themselves in a terrible spot, only sitting 2.5 games back in the division early on, there are a few guys who need to step up for this team to play as well as it should. At the top of that list is Alec Bohm, who is hitting just .153 on the season with one home run.

The Phillies have been playing Edmundo Sosa, and the veteran has been playing rather well. Some Phillies fans believe that he should be playing third base over Bohm, though the latest suggests that the Phillies aren't going to do that anytime soon. Philadelphia understands that it needs Bohm to play well, and Sosa will not get the benefit of the doubt in this scenario.

“The Phillies need Bohm to get going, so don’t expect Sosa to start seeing more playing time at third base. Sosa is a clubhouse and fan favorite. He brings energy to the field every time he plays. At times, he has played so well in short bursts that folks occasionally wonder if he could play more. But Sosa is best in his current role. The Phillies are better if Bohm is playing every day and producing. They would love it if he did it as the cleanup hitter,” Todd Zolecki of MLB.com wrote.

While Bohm hasn't had the start to the campaign he was hoping for, there are some off-the-field problems currently going on. He decided to move on from agent Scott Boras, and he is currently suing his parents for funneling money through an LLC. Reports indicated that Bohm had his parents manage his finances.

“I think just how he acts in the clubhouse and how he acts on the field,” Thomson said of his off-field issues. “The performance is getting better. The swing is getting better. But when he does struggle, we don't see the same frustration we saw in the past, so that's good. He's grown up. My door is always open, so if he ever wants to talk about anything -- he hasn't. He seems to be in a really good space.”

It might be better to sit Bohm out a few games and have him just take a deep breath with everything going on in his life. Ultimately, things like family are much more important than baseball, so the young man might just feel a bit off at the moment.
