San Antonio Spurs star center Victor Wembanyama made some major NBA history as he became the first-ever unanimous Defensive Player of the Year award winner in NBA history. At 22 years old, he also became the youngest player ever to win the award.

In reality, Wembanyama would have won the award last year if he hadn't fallen short of the league's 65-game threshold for award eligibility.

After the award was announced, Wembanyama joined the NBA on NBC broadcast to express pride about the accomplishment. 

"It feels great," Wembanyama said of winning the award. "The real struggle might have been getting to 65 games. But I'm super happy to win this award and super proud to be the first ever unanimous [winner]." 

Wembanyama should get used to winning Defensive Player of the Year awards, as he likely has many more in his future.The current record for most DPOYs is four, shared by Rudy Gobert, Ben Wallace and Dikembe Mutombo. That record is in some serious jeopardy.

It wouldn't be surprising at all to see Wembanayma break that record. In fact, it would be surprising if he didn't. That's how good he is defensively at such a young age.
