Peacock Has Canceled the Clueless Sequel Series
· IGN

Back in April 2025, Peacock revealed it had a Clueless TV series with Alicia Silverstone returning as Cher in development. Today, Variety reports that, for now, the project has been canceled. The report suggested that another network could snap it up when it goes back onto the market given the strong interest around the project.

Last year, Silverstone spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the series. "Where we are at with that is that it's very early stages. I'm obviously excited. I never thought that that was something that I would ever do because I wouldn't want to mess up this thing that we all love so much. So we will do our very best to honor the original movie that we love and also bring something new to it. That's the goal, and I believe we will execute that goal."
She also suggested that fans would get to see a new, more thoughtful Cher in the series. "I can't wait to step back into Cher's skin and her fancy designer shoes that will be gently used. Of course, duh. Because she's evolved; this is 2025. She's not wearing the new stuff. Unless it's, you know, sustainable or vegan. I mean, we'll have to see how far we can go with that. But let's see."
Writers attached to the project included Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, who both previously wrote for Gossip Girl and The OC, and Jordan Weiss, a writer on Dollface, Freakier Friday, and the upcoming Polly Pocket Movie. Producers included Silverstone and Amy Heckerling, the writer and director of the original 1995 movie.
So far, Clueless sequel projects have had a bumpy ride. Originally CBS TV Studios had a series focused on Dionne Davenport (played by Stacey Dash) in the works in 2020, but the idea was abandoned after also getting picked up by Peacock.
