The Athletic reports that they are keenly interested in Newcastle United winger Antony Gordon and a move is not dependent on Champions League qualification.
Chelsea plan to change their recruitment policy this summer, prioritising a move for Premier League-proven players, which makes Gordon an ideal target.
His ability to run in-behind defences — a trait Chelsea have lacked this season — makes a move more appealing.
Gordon has scored 22 goal involvements across all competitions this term, a tally only bettered by Joao Pedro in the Chelsea squad.
Chelsea have been long-term admirers of the England international, having previously attempted to sign him in 2022 from Everton.
Chelsea face stiff competition for Gordon
Gordon is also high on Bayern Munich’s shortlist of attacking targets. He is considered an alternative to RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande.
The Bundesliga giants are said to be confident of luring him to the club, where he would link up with his international team-mate Harry Kane.
Arsenal, meanwhile, maintain an interest in Gordon, having explored signing him last summer. But, it remains to be seen how hard they would push to sign him.
Liverpool also hold a long-standing interest in him, but he is not considered a target for this summer.
Newcastle are open to selling Gordon and are looking to make a substantial profit on the £40 million plus £5m in add-ons they paid Everton for him in 2023.
They are reportedly looking to sell him for at least £80m. Everton will receive 15 percent of the profit made from his sale.
