Dodgers make trade with Blue Jays for 28-year-old infielder
· Yahoo Sports
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays hooked up on a trade for the first time since they met in the 2025 World Series.
The Dodgers will receive Tyler Fitzgerald, a 28-year-old infielder whom the Blue Jays designated for assignment on April 24. The Blue Jays will receive cash considerations.

In a corresponding 40-man roster move, the Dodgers transferred pitcher Landon Knack to the 60-day injured list.
Fitzgerald went from San Francisco to Toronto on April 4 in a trade that sent cash to the Giants. In six games with the Buffalo Bisons, the Jays’ Triple-A affiliate, Fitzgerald went 3 for 20 (.150) with 14 strikeouts.
Although he was summoned to the major leagues prior to the Blue Jays’ series against the Dodgers at Rogers Centre earlier this month, Fitzgerald did not make it into a game.

Fitzgerald made his MLB debut against the Dodgers in September 2023. Four games into his career, he was hitting .333 with a home run and a double. He hit another home run later in the month, when the Dodgers visited San Francisco.
After making a strong first impression against the Dodgers, Fitzgerald got a longer runway with the Giants in 2024.
In 96 games that season, he slashed .280/.334/.497 with 15 homers and 34 RBIs with the Giants. But he struggled in 2025, slashing .217/.278/.327 in 72 games. His strikeouts (70 in 217 at-bats) became a major issue.

Given his continued struggles with the Blue Jays’ top farm team, Fitzgerald seems unlikely to appear in a game with the Dodgers anytime soon. He hasn’t officially been assigned to a minor league affiliate, but Fitzgerald could make his way to Triple-A Oklahoma City first.
The Dodgers are hosting the Miami Marlins April 28 and 29. They have survived an injury to shortstop Mookie Betts to start the season 20-9, with Hyeseong Kim proving capable at the plate (.319/.389/.426) and in the field at shortstop.
Fitzgerald appeared in three games at shortstop and three at second base in his brief time with the Blue Jays’ top farm team.
