Arthur Fils’ remarkable run continues, and now he’s up against what might be the toughest challenge in tennis right now.

Having already impressed by reaching the semi-finals of the Madrid Open, if he wants to win his first Masters 1000 title, he’ll have to get past world number one Jannik Sinner.

Both players have yet to lose a match on clay this season, and Sinner’s unbeaten streak has only grown stronger with his latest wins in Spain.

Speaking ahead of their upcoming match, Fils touched on that very point.

Earlier this week, the 21-year-old was asked in a press conference if he could see himself putting together a similar run to Sinner’s current streak.

Sinner has strung together 21 straight wins, collecting titles at Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte Carlo along the way.

“Don’t even mention it,” Fils responded with a grin.

“Right now, I’m just trying to win one more. For me, it’s not possible to even consider that. I think the most I’ve done in my career is maybe eight or nine. We’re at eight today, we’ll try to reach nine.”

He added: “For now, I’m just trying to win one more, then we’ll see about those players who win 20 in a row or 17 in a row. For me, right now, it’s not possible. Maybe someday.”

Arthur Fils may have what it takes to challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner

The ATP Tour has become so one-sided that many are eager for a fresh face to emerge and challenge the dominance of Carlos Alcaraz and Sinner.

Together, they’ve shared the last nine Grand Slam titles, and at least one of them has won every tournament they’ve entered for 20 events in a row.

Among the new wave of young players making their mark, alongside veterans like Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev still staying relevant, Fils appears to be the sport’s best shot at shaking up the current order.

He’s hungry, gifted, and already possesses both the physicality and technical ability needed to compete at the highest level.

And right now, he’s in great form. He reached a final in Qatar, made quarter-finals at Indian Wells, semi-finals in Miami, then captured the title in Barcelona.

Next up is a showdown with Sinner in Madrid’s semi-finals – another big chance for Fils to strengthen his case as someone ready to break into tennis’ top tier.
