Cameron Young leads Cadillac Championship, but weather looms

DORAL — All Cameron Young has to do is go back three weeks to see what it means to lead a PGA Tour event by six strokes.
Rory McIlroy entered the weekend leading the Masters by half a dozen shots. At the end of the third round he was tied with Young atop the leaderboard. McIlroy recovered and won his second Green Jacket.

Young, the Palm Beach Gardens resident, has led the Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral after each of the first three rounds, with that spread growing each day. Young's 70 in the third round puts him at 15-under, and six shots in front of Scottie Scheffler, Si Woo Kim and Palm Beach Gardens' Kristoffer Reitan, each carding a 69 in the third round.
The largest blown lead during the final round of a PGA Tour event is six shots, shared by nine golfers.
"It won't change really how I play," Young said. "Especially the front nine. I may be a hair more conservative in a place or two, but with the weather looking the way it does, that would be how I would be playing anyway."
The forecast for the final round is ugly with rain and thunderstorms expected. Tee times have been moved up to 7:30 a.m. Players will go off in threesomes and utilize the first and 10th tees. The leaders are scheduled to tee off at 9:40 a.m.
"I said it (Friday), no lead is safe I don't think out here," Young said. "I would love it to be 12, but it's (six). I'm going to go try to execute my plan as if I'm right around the lead or just trying to have a good day out there, not necessarily with any thought toward where I'm at in the tournament."
Young is seeking his second win of the season to go along with The Players, and fourth top 5. He finished the Masters tied for third.
Young started the day with a five shot lead. His second shot went in the water, leading to a bogey. That advantage was down to two shots after three holes but birdies on Nos. 5 and 6 got it back to five, and it did not get any closer.
The biggest challenge for the third round was the wind.
"It definitely was blowing," Young said. "I feel like it was blowing harder earlier and then really picked up as we got to 10, 12, 13, in there, it was blowing pretty good."
Now, add rain to that for the final round.
"I think (Saturday) was kind of a good test run of how (the final round) will be," Young said. "I'm sure it will not be as easy as I want it to be. It will be a fight from the beginning and just looking to execute the way that I did for the most part today. Just keep it in front of me and try to make some putts."
Kristoffer Reitan learned he was in field one hour before tee time
Reitan was the last man into the Cadillac Classic field, being awarded his spot after Jake Knapp withdrew. He learned he was playing one hour before his Round 1 tee time.
"It's been a little bit of a whirlwind emotion wise," Reitan said. "Just mainly happy to be here and get a chance in one of the signature events. I've been trying to look at it as whatever happens this week is a bonus no matter what. But that's kind of the approach I've been taking this week."
Reitan opened with a 70 and shot up the leaderboard with a second round 68. The 28-year-old Norwegian has had a solid rookie season with three top 20s, including a runner-up at the Zurich Classis of New Orleans where he teamed with fellow Norwegian Kris Ventura, and a T10 at the Valero Texas Open.
Scheffler moved into second place with a birdie on No. 18, the hardest hole on the course. It was one of just nine birdies in the final hole during the first three rounds.
