There has been some speculation that the Rockets could pivot and look to move on from Durant over the offseason. However, it doesn't seem like that will be the case.
Kevin Durant expected to remain with Rockets moving forward
According to a recent report from Ramona Shelburne and Tim MacMahon of ESPN, Durant is expected to remain with the Rockets moving forward, as is head coach Ime Udoka.
Durant has two years remaining on his current contract, including a $46 player option for the 20227-28 season.
From ESPN:
After coming together to win two elimination games, the Rockets ended their season Friday night, lamenting their bad luck with injuries but forced to consider whether that was really the crux of their demise this season.
... Despite the loss, multiple high-level team sources still believe their young core can contend for the next decade. Those same sources said Udoka will remain an essential part of the team's future. Durant too.
Durant missed all but one game of the series with the Lakers due to a couple of different injury issues. Had he been available, the outcome could have been different.
Plus, the Rockets were missing key cogs Fred VanVleet and Steven Adams for the season, so we never really got to see the team at full strength.
Obviously some changes need to be made to the roster over the offseason, but it sure sounds like those changes won't include moving on from Durant.
