Two assists and a goal from Lionel Messi powered Inter Miami past Toronto FC, 4-2, on Saturday, May 9, and also helped Messi add another accolade to his MLS career.

The 38-year-old became the fastest player to reach 100 goal contributions, with 59 goals and 41 assists in his first 64 MLS regular-season matches since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023.
The fans at BMO Stadium saw the previous leader to 100 often. Messi surpassed Toronto FC great Sebastian Giovinco, who took 95 matches to reach 100 goals plus assists — that's a 31-match difference, which is nearly an entire MLS regular season.

Messi also zoomed past former LA Galaxy star Robbie Keane, LAFC legend Carlos Vela and Josef Martinez, the Tijuana forward who started his MLS career with Atlanta United.
Messi's performance helped push Inter Miami to a 4-2 win in Toronto — though not one without controversy. Messi's assist for Luis Suarez to make the score 2-0 came on a play with a Toronto FC defender down injured, keeping Suarez onside.
There could be few complaints about the goal he scored, however, as Messi dribbled through the midfield, found Rodrigo De Paul at the edge of the penalty area, ran toward the spot and scored with his famous left foot when the ball came back to him.

Three points in Canada keeps Inter Miami in second place in the Eastern Conference, even as the team struggles to find results at home. Before their return to Nu Stadium, the venue opened in April where Inter Miami has yet to win, Inter Miami travels to Ohio to meet FC Cincinnati midweek.
