May 10—VERMILLION — There were two teams that beat Summit League regular season champion Omaha three times this year, and they're going to be playing each other in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

The USD Coyotes (20-34-1) will take on No. 1 seed Nebraska on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Lincoln for what will be the Yotes' first-ever appearance in the NCAA tournament at any level in softball.
The Coyotes are coming off an improbable and dramatic win in the Summit League tournament, having entered as the 4-seed in a 6-team tournament and twice knocking off the top-seeded Mavericks, including in a 2-1 nail-biter in the winner-take-all championship on Saturday in Minneapolis.
USD entered the conference tournament with a 16-33-1 record, and now they're headed to the Big Dance to take on the No. 2 ranked team in the nation.
Needless to say, it will be an enormous challenge for the Coyotes. Nebraska just won the Big Ten tournament and is currently on a 21-game winning streak, the longest active streak in the country. They're 46-6 on the year and 15-1 at Bowlin Stadium, their home field. They also won the Big Ten regular season title, going 23-1 in league play.
USD and Nebraska did not play this year.
