UIL playoffs: 12 Central Texas high school baseball teams advance to regional semifinals

Twelve Central Texas high school baseball teams advanced to the regional semifinals of the UIL playoffs by winning their best-of-three area round series Friday or Saturday.

Class 6A Division I

Lake Travis 12, S.A. Johnson 4: CJ Hansford went 3-for-4 with a triple, double and four RBIs and tossed two innings of scoreless relief to lead the Cavs to the win in series-deciding Game 3. Owen Nugen finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Ethan Schlotterback went 2-for-3 with two walks, an RBI and two runs scored and Luke McBride had two hits as part of a 13-hit day for Lake Travis. 

Lake Travis 10, S.A. Johnson 6: Nelson Molina finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Hansford tallied two hits and threw four scoreless innings as the Cavs won Game 2. Elliot Su and McBride both ripped doubles for Lake Travis. 

Johnson 13, Economedes 2 (6): Waylon Griffith went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and six RBIs and Kason Hullum threw five shutout innings with four strikeouts to lead the Jaguars to the series sweep. Gannon Plummer and Joseph Duran had two-run triples and both Parker George and Brenly Oaks finished with two hits in other notable offense for Johnson. 

Johnson 6, Economedes 2: Reed Dierschke tossed a complete game with 13 strikeouts, George went 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI and both Plummer and Selvin Garrett drove in runs as the Jaguars took Game 1. 

Cedar Ridge 8, S.A. Reagan 6: Kai Rice went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Noah Olivas, Riggs Gordon and Kasen Langerhans all drove in two runs as the Raiders completed the series sweep. Jake Shoemaker and Christian Olivas each tallied two hits for Cedar Ridge, which got a combined effort on the mound from Luke Irwin and Bryson Batton. 

Cedar Ridge 9, S.A. Reagan 3: Gordon went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Matthew Mabry drove in three runs and Sawyer Neugent scattered five hits in six innings to lead the Raiders in Game 1. 

Class 6A Division II 

Dripping Springs 10, S.A. Brandeis 0: Nixon Badilla struck out seven in 5 1/3 innings, Jason Steele went 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs, Jake Pardue finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Cade Sanders went 2-for-3 with a double and run driven in as the Tigers won series-deciding Game 3. Sam Branyon and Bobby Wilkinson both had RBI hits in other offense for Dripping Springs. 

Dripping Springs 7, S.A. Brandeis 2: Blake Cox had 10 strikeouts in four shutout innings, Sanders ripped a two-run single and Breydan Madeley, Anthony Delgado and Cash Nelson all drove in runs as the Tigers took Game 2. Jason Steele finished 2-for-3 with a run scored in other offense for Dripping Springs. 

Westlake 6, S.A. O’Connor 0: Luke Rafferty struck out nine and scattered three hits in six innings and Lane Johnson went 2-for-3 with a triple, double and RBI as the Chaps completed the series sweep. August Collard also ripped a two-run single for Westlake. 

Westlake 5, S.A. O’Connor 1: Hayes Brodhead threw a complete game with nine strikeouts and Owen Strain finished 2-for-3 with an RBI as the Chaps took Game 1. Johnson’s run-scoring triple highlighted Westlake’s four-run seventh. Anderson Gerault produced an RBI single and Chase Brodhead tripled in other notable offense for the Chaps. 

Class 5A Division I 

Rouse 2, Seguin 0: Jack Doss threw a four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and Colby Driskell went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Raiders to the series sweep. Mason Gonzalez’s sacrifice fly drove in Rouse’s other run. 

Rouse 8, Seguin 1: Jacob Sainz tossed a complete game with 12 strikeouts, Brody Sharp hit a grand slam and Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with an RBI double to lead the Raiders in Game 1. Joe Bury ripped a run-scoring double and Cristian Caro drove in two runs in other offense for Rouse. 

Hendrickson 11, F.B. Kempner 1 (6): Dylan Wells threw a complete game with six strikeouts and went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Rhett Peterson finished 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs as the Hawks swept the series. Both Logan Clark and Braedan Borger finished 2-for-4 with an extra-base hit and two runs driven in, while Jake Laake went 2-for-4 with an RBI in other offense for Hendrickson. 

Hendrickson 16, F.B. Kempner 4: Peterson went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Clark and Laake drove in two runs and Borger had two hits as the Hawks rolled to an easy win in Game 1. JJ Coston struck out seven and only allowed two hits and two earned runs in six innings. 

Class 5A Division II 

Georgetown 10, Waltrip 0 (5): Connor Young tossed a one-hit shutout and went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Eagles to the series sweep. Colton Green finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Braden Kirton drove in two runs in other notable offense for Georgetown.  

Georgetown 10, Waltrip 0: Cade Ereckson struck out six in six innings, Green ripped a two-run double and Braden Kirton went 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI as the Eagles dominated in Game 1. Young belted two doubles and Braden Rogers had two hits in other notable offense for Georgetown.

Cedar Park 12, S.A. Southwest 1: Hudson Cuevas went 2-for-2 with a walk, double and three RBIs and Owen Mansfield finished 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs as the Timberwolves recorded the series sweep. Tanner Richardson went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and RBI, Carter Frith finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Mack Galindo belted two triples in other notable offense for Cedar Park. Dominic Naylor struck out nine in four shutout innings to lead the Timberwolves on the mound. 

Cedar Park 4, S.A. Southwest 0: Damian Alonzo threw a five-hit shutout with nine strikeouts, Evan Daly went 4-for-4 with a double and RBI and Mansfield finished 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs to pace the Timberwolves in Game 1. Galindo smacked a run-scoring double and Brandon Washburn produced a sacrifice fly in other notable offense for Cedar Park. 

Liberty Hill 10, S.A. MacArthur 0: Journey Lowery went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, Carson Sharp finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Koby Nuenschwander went 3-for-3 with two runs scored as the Panthers swept the series. Tyler Dominguez struck out six and only gave up three hits in five innings to pace Liberty Hill on the mound.  

Liberty Hill 5, S.A. MacArthur 0: Jordan Andrews threw a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts, Jaxson Richter hit a solo home run and Greyson McVan belted a two-run single to lead the Panthers in Game 1. Brady Gage produced a run-scoring single and both Caleb Calvert and Chase Davis had doubles in other offense for Liberty Hill. 

Weiss 6, Victoria West 4: Jordan Benjamin’s two-run double broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth and spurred the Wolves to a win in Game 2 and a sweep of the series. Benjamin finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Rhema Benjamin went 3-for-3 and Patrick Brock finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the Weiss offense. 

Weiss 10, Victoria West 0: Jace Rodriguez went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Thomas Botkin finished 3-for-4 with a run driven in and Rhema Benjamin scattered four hits in six innings to lead the Wolves in Game 1. Jordan Benjamin ripped a two-run single and Gabe Hernandez had an RBI double in other offense for Weiss. 

Class 4A Division II 

Wimberley 5, Navarro 0: Alex Abrusley and Jacob Abrusley combined for a no-hit shutout, Cannon Couch went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Jake Dewell drove in two runs to lead the Texans to the Game 2 win and series sweep. 

Wimberley 4, Navarro 3: Sage Hall hit a two-run single and Jayden Hall had a run-scoring single as the Texans put across three runs in the top of the seventh for a come-from-behind win in Game 1. Hall also recorded the final two outs in the bottom of the seventh to earn the save. Couch, Alex Abrusley, Jacob Abrusley and Santana Raye also had hits for Wimberley.
