The Boston Red Sox are off on Monday, which is great timing for first baseman Willson Contreras.
That gives Contreras an extra day to heal from his right-hand contusion, which he suffered after getting hit by a pitch in the first inning of Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Contreras exited the game, which the Red Sox lost, 4-1. Scans came back negative after the game, according to interim manager Chad Tracy.
On Monday, MassLive's Chris Cotillo shared an encouraging update on Contreras ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies.
As I understand it, Red Sox are still cautiously optimistic on Willson Contreras' hand injury and will re-assess when he arrives Tuesday. As of now, there's at least a chance he plays tomorrow against the Phillies. But it's a read-and-react thing.

While Contreras' status is still up in the air for Tuesday, it sounds like there's a decent chance he'll play. Boston could use his bat back in the lineup if it wants to generate some offense against Zack Wheeler and beat the red-hot Phillies, who are 10-3 over their last 13 games.
The three-time AllStar has only missed one game this season and has been one of the Red Sox's best hitters, leading the team with eight home runs and 23 RBI.
