“Not convinced” – Liverpool appear to have rejected idea of appointing top Chelsea candidate

Xabi Alonso looks more and more likely to come to Chelsea, and some journalists are trying to explain how that’s possible.

One of the reasons we thought Chelsea had no chance landing Xabi Alonso as their new manager was that the club is a mess and no top manager would risk their reputation here.

That still stands as a concern. But the other reason we thought we wouldn’t land him was that Liverpool would surely swoop in and grab their former player. That hasn’t happened yet, and one Liverpool based journalist has some thoughts on why.

Liverpool “not absolutely convinced” by Alonso

David Lynch pointed out on BBC Merseyside that Alonso is the “outstanding candidate… if you were convinced he was s slam dunk… then the opportunity to appoint him is there.”

“The fact that they’re not doing that, and we get the sense that it’s absolutely not happening, that there’s no pursuit of Alonso ongoing, I think it gives you an indication that [Liverpool] are not absolutely convinced about him.”

They may well be the case, but assuming that’s true, he’s so much more interesting and tempting than the other candidates that Chelsea fans would still be very excited to land him.

In other news…

Alonso seems to be getting closer and closer to the Chelsea job, and some fans are very paranoid that it’s simply too good to be true.

With Emmanuel Emegha set to join Chelsea, it’s going to be very interesting to see what they do with the strikers already on their books.
