Nate Diaz responds to retirement talk following heavy defeat to Mike Perry

Nate Diaz’s return to MMA didn’t exactly go as he’d hoped.
The former UFC fighter, who was stepping into the cage for the first time since his 2022 win over Tony Ferguson, didn’t get the result he wanted.

Before Ronda Rousey made her comeback against Gina Carano, Diaz took on Mike Perry in the co-main event. Perry is best known for his run in bare-knuckle boxing.
Diaz was stopped after two rounds due to cuts. It wasn’t a shock to many watching, but even after another tough night, it doesn’t sound like he’s ready to walk away just yet.

After losing to Perry at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood on May 16, Diaz is facing calls to call it a day — something that’s pretty much expected anytime an older fighter takes a heavy loss.
The predictions of a doctor’s stoppage against Perry highlight just how much damage he’s absorbed over the years.
Diaz didn’t take long to address those calls, pushing back with some humour during his post-fight press conference.
“People are like, ‘You lost, you should hang them up!’ Isn’t this the most violent?” Diaz said.
“I just fought the most violent right there. Maybe I just don’t fight the most violent, maybe I just fight the second most violent.
“It’s like, ‘Maybe I’m done, I’m retired,’ leaves my gloves in the cage,” he added, while fake crying. “I should have just not fought the most violent out there.”
Perry could also be his next opponent after a conversation between both fighters took place inside the cage straight after Saturday’s fight.
MVP MMA co-founder Nakisa Bidarian suggested that a rematch between Diaz and Perry could happen sooner rather than later based on what happened in California.
