Texas A&M women’s tennis claims national title with 4-1 win vs. Auburn

· Yahoo Sports

For the second time in three years, the Texas A&M women’s tennis team is the national champion. The Aggies defeated Auburn 4–1 to claim the 2026 NCAA title, cementing themselves as a true dynasty in the world of college tennis.

A&M opened the afternoon on a high note, securing the doubles point behind wins from Lucciana Perez/Mia Kupres and Daria Smetannikov/Lexington Reed. But just as momentum was building, play was halted due to lightning in the area an eerie callback to the weather delay two years ago when the Aggies beat Georgia for their first national championship.

When play resumed, Auburn came out firing. The Tigers jumped ahead on five of the six singles courts, threatening to flip the match entirely. What looked like a potential sweep of first sets against A&M quickly turned into a fight for survival.

Kupres held her ground to take her opening set, while Lexington Reed and Violeta Martinez mounted strong comebacks to claim theirs as well. Slowly, the Aggies began to tilt the match back in their favor.

Martinez delivered the first singles point, pushing the lead to 2–0, before Auburn answered to make it 2–1. With A&M leading on multiple remaining courts, the pressure shifted squarely onto the Tigers.

Reed delivered point No. 3, putting the Aggies one win away from the title. And while a clincher from Perez would have been poetic, it was Daria Smetannikov who sealed the championship. After a grueling three‑set battle, she delivered the decisive point that crowned Texas A&M the national champions once again.

With two titles in three years, the Aggies aren’t just winning, they’re building a legacy.
