The Chicago Bears saw a chance to add an intriguing talent with pretty much no risk.
They've signed the running back Salvon Ahmed on Wednesday, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
"Ahmed suffered a serious and gruesome ankle injury on a hip-drop tackle during practice last year and has worked hard to get back," Schultz wrote with the news on X. "He now gets this opportunity in Chicago."
Ahmed is still just 27 years old, and he previously showed promise.
He was an undrafted player out of Washington who first signed with the Miami Dolphins.
In 2020, he ran 75 times for 319 yards (4.3 yards per carry) and three touchdowns. He also caught 11 passes for 61 yards.
In 2021, he went 54 carries for 149 yards with 12 catches for 117 yards.

Ahmed had just 12 carries for 64 yards and a TD in 2022, along with one catch for eight yards.
Then in 2023, Ahmed ran 22 times for 61 yards and a score while adding 16 grabs for 88 yards.
He spent the 2024 season on the Denver Broncos practice squad.
In 2025, Ahmed signed with the Indianapolis Colts, but the injury in August ended his career before he got a chance to suit up for Indy.
He hit free agency after the season, and now he's joined the Bears.
Chicago still has D'Andre Swift, Kyle Monangai, Roschon Johnson and Brittain Brown. They've got a couple other undrafted players, too, so it's an uphill climb for Ahmed, but at least he's getting a chance.
