Bemidji sweeps Brainerd behind big innings, timely pitching

May 20—BRAINERD — The Bemidji High School baseball team bagged two more Section 8-4A wins on Tuesday in Brainerd.
The Lumberjacks rallied with two runs in the final two innings to win the doubleheader opener by a score of 2-1. They also won a slugfest, completing the sweep with a 12-5 win.

Wyatt Tverstol's only blemish in the series opener was an unearned run in the first inning. He threw all seven innings and allowed four hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts.
Miles Gish drove in a run on a fielder's choice, while Reece Dokken singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh. Jack Zellmann also went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles.
The doubleheader finale featured more offense. Bemidji scored five runs in the third and four in the fourth to jump out to a 9-1 lead. The Lumberjacks added three insurance runs in the final two innings to complete the seven-run win.
Kash Rasmus went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Dokken, Gunner Ganske, James Garrison, Lawson Berg and Heaton Brodina each had multi-hit games, while Gish went 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.
Ganske picked up the win on the bump, throwing six innings and allowing four hits, one walk and two earned runs. He also struck out 11 batters. Of the 42 defensive outs the Jacks recorded on Tuesday, 22 of them were strikeouts.
