Here's how Somerset County athletes fared at PIAA Track and Field Championships

SHIPPENSBURG — Baylee Sleek's title defense in the 2A girls high jump headlined Day 1 action at the PIAA Track and Field Championships, Friday, May 22, at Seth Grove Stadium.
Several other Somerset competitors were in action as well.

In Class 3A, Somerset freshman Libby Marteeny turned in a time of 5:04.81, finishing 21st in the girls 1600-meter run.
Meanwhile, in the boys 2A 1600-meter run, Conemaugh Township sophomore Hudson Lease ran a 4:31.36, finishing 22nd.
Meyersdale senior Branson Hersh competed in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdle prelims. He finished in 14th with a time of 15.54, failing to qualify for the final in the 110 hurdles, and ran a 40.53 in the 300 hurdles. He finished 16th and missed the final.
In the girls 2A 100-meter dash prelims, freshman Paige Weaver was a late addition to the event, after finishing second at the District 5 meet. A scratch gave Weaver a spot at states. The Shanksville-Stonycreek student-athlete who competes in a co-op with Berlin Brothersvalley, ran a 13.09, finishing 23rd, missing a spot in the final.
Weaver, who won the D5 200-meter dash, ran a 27.43 in the prelims, finishing 24th and failing to qualify for the final.
Braxtyn Sleek set a new PR in the 300-meter hurdle prelims with a time of 48.44, finishing 19th and missing the final.
Note: Richland's Arison McCulty bested Bishop Carroll's Eli Cunningham, capturing gold in the 2A boys long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 5½ inches.
