Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha has written a letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu expressing concern over rising airfares on India-UAE and Gulf routes and demanding immediate corrective measures.

Tankha urged the civil aviation ministry to review airfare rates on UAE and Gulf routes and take steps to make travel more affordable for passengers. “Travel to India for people working in the UAE and Gulf countries is not a luxury but a necessity,” Tankha said in his letter.

He said many employers in the UAE and Gulf region were provided a fixed travel allowance (FTA) but airfares on these routes have more than doubled, making the allowance insufficient to cover even half the ticke t cost. “As a result, millions of families are unable to visit India as travel has become unaffordable,” he said.

Tankha also highlighted the emotional impact of prolonged family separation, saying children were growing up without their parents and families were facing emotional distress. He urged the government to consider subsidy support during the June-August summer travel period.
