Gerry Sandusky says grandchildren changed retirement plans completely!

· Yahoo Sports

For two decades, Gerry Sandusky became one of the most recognizable voices in Baltimore sports, but the decision to step away from broadcasting ultimately came down to family. During an appearance on The Lounge with Ryan Mink and Garrett Downing, Sandusky revealed that the birth of his grandchildren last season completely changed his perspective on retirement and his future priorities.

Sandusky explained that while he still loved the job, missing the birth of his grandchildren because of the NFL schedule made him realize it was time for a new chapter.

“At that moment, I just realized I cannot keep living my life around a schedule that I have no control of, right? As much as I have loved and I have loved all of it, I have a bigger love in my life now. And those grandkids are just like the axis of our family now. And I don’t want to miss their birthday this September 19th. And I don’t want to miss their big events because, you know, grandpop’s got a game.”

Sandusky said he knew during the 2025 season that it would be his final year behind the microphone, even before publicly announcing his retirement months later. For someone who spent decades making Ravens memories part of Baltimore sports history, it's fitting that family ultimately became the reason he decided the "hay was in the barn."
