Multiple gunshot wounds

Upon arrival, police found the body of a 33-year-old man lying face down with multiple gunshot wounds.

“The victim was declared deceased at the scene by medical personnel,” police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk said.

Witnesses told local media that two unknown gunmen allegedly entered the café and opened fire six times on the victim before fleeing with his laptop and cellphone.

The man is believed to have been a regular patron at the establishment.

The motive for the killing remains unclear, and no arrests had been made at the time of publication.

Authorities confirmed that no staff members, patrons or bystanders were injured during the incident.

Sought to reassure residents

In a statement following the shooting, the Beach Boulevard Business Precinct sought to reassure residents and visitors, saying early indications suggested the incident was isolated and not a random act of violence against the public.

“At this stage, there is no indication of any ongoing threat to residents, visitors or businesses within the area, and the precinct remains safe,” the organisation said.

The business grouping also urged the public not to spread unverified information on social media while investigations continue.

Crime stats

The latest shooting comes shortly after the release of the latest crime stats which showed an improvement in the number of murders in South Africa in Q4 of the year (January to March 2026).

Murders dropped to 58 per day, with the Western Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape accounting for more than 80% of all murders in the country.
