· Yahoo Sports
The summer break is almost here, but there are a couple more weeks of high school sports, which means you can now go and vote for the Rockford Register Star high school Athlete of the Week for the week of May 18-23.
Go to our poll and vote now. We ask that you vote only once per day, to keep the polls fair.
Visit mchezo.co.za for more information.
To nominate an athlete for our AOTW poll, send an email to [email protected] by 10 a.m. Monday mornings, with information and stats on why you think they deserve to be nominated.
Almost every week for the rest of the school year, we will compile a list of athletes from the Rockford area who had standout weeks and let you, the reader, vote on who you think deserves the AOTW award. Every week you will be able to find the nominees as well as the poll at rrstar.com.
The AOTW poll will stay open until noon on Friday.
This week's nominees are:
Jaeda Benford, Auburn track and field
Benford held off everyone in the state to win the IHSA Class 3A high jump title at Saturday's girls track and field championships in Charleston. Benford, who took second at state last year, cleared the bar at 5-foot-7.
Caden Considine, Byron baseball
Considine scored two runs in Byron's 13-2 win over Princeton last Friday, setting a new IHSA state record for runs scored with the 222nd of his career. Considine and the Tigers were scheduled to face Stillman Valley in Wednesday's postseason opener.
Eli Ferris, Forreston track and field
Ferris qualified for the IHSA boys state track and field meet in three events with his strong performance at last Friday's Class 1A Oregon Sectional.
Tyson Hill, Harlem track and field
Hill qualified for this week's IHSA boys state track and field meet in both the shot put and discus with strong performances at last week's Antioch Sectional. The Class 3A state prelims are Friday, and the finals are Saturday, all in Charleston.

This pair won the Rochelle Sectional doubles' title to advance to this week's IHSA state tennis tournament in the suburbs of Chicago.
Diego Robles Sanchez, Freeport tennis
Robles Sanchez won the Class 2A Rochelle Sectional singles title on Saturday, advancing to state in singles for the first time in his career. He made it to state in doubles for Freeport last year.

As just a freshman, Stibal won the IHSA Class 3A girls state track and field title in the long jump on Saturday, soaring 18-feet-7 1/2 inches.
Janardie Turner, Jefferson track and field
Turner not only easily won both the 110- and 300-meter hurdle races in last week's Antioch Sectional to qualify for this weekend's state meet, but he moved up to 12th in the nation in the 110 highs with his time of 13.50.

Versino pitched a complete game with 13 strikeouts to lead Guilford over Hononegah 3-1 last week. He also hit a three-run homer, Versino's eighth homer of the season.
