One target comes off the board for Manchester City as their top priority remains clear

It isn’t groundbreaking news to learn that Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson is the top transfer target for Manchester City this summer. That has been established for some time now. Another midfielder who has been linked with a potential move to City this summer is Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez. Florian Plettenberg has reported that Manchester City’s rumored next manager, Enzo Maresca, is eager to see Enzo Fernandez join him at City. However, a new report has ruled out a move for Enzo Fernandez by the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders. It also remains clear that Elliot Anderson remains Manchester City’s primary transfer target this summer.

Elliot Anderson remains the top transfer target for Manchester City as a City move for Enzo Fernandez is seemingly ruled out.

Jack Gaughan has provided an update on the summer transfer window plans for Manchester City in a new report for the Daily Mail. Gaughan reports that Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson remains Manchester City’s top priority in the summer transfer window. Furthermore, Gaughan reports that Anderson prefers a move to City over any other club, including Manchester United. It is also reported that Nottingham Forest values Anderson at over £100 million, and as of yet, there is no agreement between City and Nottingham Forest over a transfer fee for the England international.

It is also reported by Gaughan that City are not pursuing a summer move for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez. Gaughan adds that Chelsea would demand a similar transfer fee to that of Elliot Anderson to sell the World Cup winner this summer.

Manchester City’s top target has been clear for some time, however you do feel that City need to sign two midfielders this summer.

Elliot Anderson has long seemed to be Manchester City’s number-one transfer target for this summer. Jack Gaughan’s revelation that City are prioritizing a move for the Nottingham Forest midfielder isn’t a surprise. With Bernardo Silva having now left City, Anderson is the exact type of player that City need in midfield. Anderson’s energy, immense technical ability, and power would be a tremendous boost to City’s engine room. It also seems to be a matter of time before City find a suitable agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign their top summer transfer target. All indications are that City are working towards this goal and are aiming to have a deal in place ahead of the World Cup.

Based on Jack Gaughan’s report, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez is now off the table for City. Perhaps it is Chelsea’s asking price that has put City off. Spending almost £200 million on two midfielders would be an expensive move to pull off, even for Manchester City. You could see where Enzo Fernandez could fit into the City midfield, and the fight, goals, and assists he’d bring, but for right now that move seems to have been ruled out.

Manchester City is pushing ahead in its bid to sign Elliot Anderson this summer. As Jack Gaughan reports, Anderson is City’s top priority in the market. However, a City move for Enzo Fernandez seems out of the question. If City does want to sign another midfielder outside of Anderson, they may pursue a cheaper move than what Chelsea will demand to sell Enzo Fernandez.
