After steamrolling the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals, capped by a ruthless 130-93 Game 4 closeout, New York punched its first NBA Finals ticket since 1999 and extended one of the most dominant playoff stretches in franchise history.
Now, Knicks fans have been dealt some concerning news.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Thursday that Knicks center Mitchell Robinson has suffered a broken right pinky finger and currently has no timetable for a return.
The timing could not be worse. New York sits less than a week away from the NBA Finals, and one of its most important playoff role players is suddenly in limbo.

In 13 playoff appearances, Robinson has averaged 5.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks in 14.2 minutes per game.
But his box scores don’t fully explain his value.
Robinson delivers vertical rim pressure that keeps opponents honest, defensive switches that allow New York to survive against smaller lineups, and energy off the bench.
His 2.5 offensive rebounds per game also rank second among remaining playoff players, behind only his teammate Karl-Anthony Towns.
His latest performance against Cleveland put his value on full display. In the series-clinching blowout, Robinson delivered eight points and 10 rebounds in just 18 minutes, bringing his familiar chaos to the glass and giving New York another layer of physicality.
And that matters when you consider who’s going to be on the other sideline.

The Knicks are headed toward a Finals matchup with elite size and unusual frontcourt talent, regardless of who wins in the West.
You’re either going to have to deal with Oklahoma City’s rangy defense, anchored by Chet Holmgren, or San Antonio’s towering Victor Wembanyama.
Without Robinson, Mike Brown could be forced into heavier Towns minutes at center, increasing offensive firepower but also creating difficult defensive matchups the Knicks can’t afford against either opponent.
