Breer: Pats, Eagles have ‘framework in place’ for A.J. Brown trade – NBCSB
One week from now, there’s a “very high likelihood” A.J. Brown will be a New England Patriot. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated shared that encouraging update during Friday’s Early Edition. As we inch closer to the June 1 date that Patriots fans have circled on their calendars, Breer explained that New England’s trade for the star wide receiver is expected to go through barring “someone backing out.” “My understanding is the framework is in place for a trade to be made early next week that will make A.J. Brown a Patriot,” Breer said. “The exact terms, the details, I still think there are some things to be worked out there. But I think it would sort of take someone backing out at this point, whether it’s the Eagles or the Patriots, for it not to happen.”
Eagles Deadzone Debate: Will the team be better off without A.J. Brown? – BGN
Much of Brown’s lack of production can likely also be traced to effort. It seemed clear by the end of the season Brown was simply playing out the string. In terms of the locker room, while Brown is still beloved by his teammates, the constant distraction was just too much drama for them to overcome. Removing him from the equation can help the Eagles re-focus on the true goal of winning a Super Bowl. At the end of the day, if the player doesn’t want to be here, he’s not going to be good. And so, in my mind, there’s little choice. The Eagles are more likely to return to Super Bowl contention without A.J. Brown than with him, given his current physical abilities, reluctance to play here, and off-season roster construction.
Why June 1 is a significant date for the NFL and a potential A.J. Brown trade – The Athletic
Brown signed an extension with Philadelphia in April 2024. He has already been paid out multiple bonuses, including an option bonus that is spread out through 2029. If the Eagles trade Brown, they will have to account for any bonus money that has not yet hit the cap. That total is $43.45 million, according to figures from Over the Cap. If the Eagles trade Brown on or before June 1, they will take on that full $43.5 million in dead money in 2026. However, if the Eagles trade Brown on or after June 2, they will spread that dead money over 2026 and 2027. The original bonus total of $16.35 million would hit the cap in 2026. The remaining bonus money of $27.1 million would hit the cap in 2027. By waiting until June 2, the Eagles can spread Brown’s $43.45 million in dead money out. Same total, just accounted for differently. That is a big piece of the delay.
Eagles rookie NFL player comparisons: WR Makai Lemon – PhillyVoice
But what likely really appealed to the Eagles’ coaching staff is that he is considered a fierce competitor. He is a willing and able blocker, and has experience returning kicks and punts. The player most commonly comped to Lemon is the Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown, another USC alum who has become an All-Pro receiver in Detroit. In fact, it’s one we pointed out when we profiled Lemon during the college football season in 2025. St. Brown is probably the best comp for Lemon, but it’s also lame to just use the one that has been beaten to death, so I’ll throw out another comp. Some of my younger readers might not appreciate this one, but Lemon reminds me a lot of former Titans and Ravens receiver Derrick Mason.
Jason Kelce, Team 62 fundraiser returns to Sea Isle for sixth-straight year – NBCSP
Looks like Ocean Drive will be expecting a certain former Eagle to bartend again this summer. If you were hoping to see Jason Kelce in a Speedo on a summer day down the shore, you’re in luck.Team 62 is officially hosting its sixth annual celebrity bartending event to benefit the Eagles Autism Foundation.
Philadelphia Eagles’ heir apparent hands off Tribeca penthouse – Crain’s New York Business
The presumed future owner of the Philadelphia Eagles has handed off his New York pad. Julian Lurie, the son of Jeffrey Lurie, who currently owns the two-time Super Bowl champions, sold the penthouse on Hudson Street in Tribeca for $2.7 million, according to a tax record that appeared in the city register Thursday. […] Julian Lurie didn’t own the home for long. He bought it in 2021 for $3 million and so took a loss on the deal, the register shows. But he had loftier ambitions when first listing the co-op in April 2025. It came on the market then for $3.3 million, which means Lurie had to shrink his price by 18% in order to seal the deal, according to public listing data. After graduating from Harvard in 2017, Lurie worked at the NFL’s main office in Midtown. Yet the family business soon came calling. In 2022, Lurie accepted an office job with the Eagles that involved both the business and football sides of the operation. Whether he relocated to Philadelphia to take the position is unclear, though Lurie does not appear to have rented out the penthouse in the last four years, according to StreetEasy data.
3 truly shocking cuts the Cowboys might consider – Blogging The Boys
KaVontae Turpin — This one would be a shocker because the savings aren’t that much. If he is designated a post-June 1st cut, it would save the Cowboys $3.4M. The move would most likely be the intersection of two different aspects. The first would be a logjam at wide receiver for the Cowboys. Sitting atop the depth chart you have George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb. After them, Ryan Flournoy, and then a host of young guys and veterans. Although Turpin is good for an explosive highlight on offense occasionally, he isn’t as polished a wide receiver as he is a return specialist. If Dallas chooses to maximize the wide receiver position with all more natural pass catchers, that squeezes out Turpin. Secondly, Jaydon Blue could step up in year two to take a more prominent role overall. He ended the season on a high note and so the team may want to increase his touches wherever they can. With the new kickoff rules, he’ll get more chances to get returns and showcase his speed. Despite being named a second-team All-Pro and to the Pro Bowl, Turpin’s kick return average dipped slightly. Again, this would be shocking because who becomes the punt returner if Turpin is cut? Jaydon Blue likely steps into that role as well, as he took part in punt return duties during practices last summer. It would be a long shot if the Cowboys cut Turpin, but most certainly stunning.
Commanders trade talk: ESPN proposes a Washington deal for Keon Coleman – Hogs Haven
Coleman has largely underwhelmed since Buffalo took him with the No. 33 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, with just 38 catches for 404 yards and four touchdowns in 2025. While Diggs and Aiyuk aren’t clear-cut guaranteed additions, there’s more likelihood they produce well in 2025. There’s a bit of a bet on Coleman, who still has two years left under his rookie contract and seemingly has upside. He averaged 19.2 yards per reception in 2024, though he had 1.55 yards per route run.
2026 NFL offseason: Ranking 10 biggest position upgrades – ESPN
3) Washington Commanders linebackers. In: Leo Chenal, Sonny Styles. Out: Bobby Wagner. One of the more brutal declines of the past few years has come from Wagner. As smart as they come, Wagner has continued racking up tackle numbers even in the twilight of his career, with 162 last season and a career-best 183 in 2023 with the Seahawks. He was making All-Pro teams as recently as 2024 for his incredible durability and nose for the ball carrier. But Wagner’s lack of speed was a glaring weakness for the Commanders’ defense over the past two seasons. In 2025, Wagner’s max speed topped out at 18.2 mph, according to Next Gen Stats’ tracking data — fifth slowest among starting off-ball linebackers. His average speed — 9.1 mph — was dead last. The difference between Wagner and second worst (Cody Simon) was as large as the difference between Simon and 14th worst. Wagner lacked explosiveness and change of direction along with true top-line speed, and as such, he could not get where he needed to be in coverage. He allowed a 109.4 passer rating when targeted, 12th among all linebackers. The 444 yards after the catch he gave up was the most of any linebacker in the league. In free agency, the Commanders let Wagner hit the open market and signed Chenal from the Chiefs as a potential replacement. Chenal is younger and faster than Wagner, and in new defensive coordinator Daronte Jones’ system, he will be used as a rusher from on- and off-ball alignments. But Chenal was a rotational player in Kansas City who didn’t spend much time in coverage, and his role in the new defense could be redundant with incumbent Frankie Luvu’s ideal job. More was needed.
NY Giants news: Gunner Olszewski feared to have torn Achilles at practice – Big Blue View
The Olszewski injury comes as the team’s two top receivers have been dealing with injuries this offseason — Malik Nabers is battling back from a major knee injury that required a second surgery recently and Darius Slayton is sidelined with an offseason sports hernia surgery. The Giants have added several players to the wide receiver room in the run up to John Harbaugh’s first year with the team. The Giants signed Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III to one-year deals while trading up in the draft to acquire Notre Dame’s Malachi Fields. Austin does have special teams experience and has returned 72 punts for 639 yards (8.9 per return) and a touchdown over the last three seasons. The injury will undoubtedly bring another round of speculation focused on the potential of signing Odell Beckham, Jr. The team’s former first-round pick worked out for the Giants this offseason and Harbaugh has spoke highly of the player he coached with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023.
Abdul Carter: “Some things are bigger than football” – PFT
On Friday, both of the men involved in last Saturday’s social-media dustup regarding President Trump spoke to reporters. Quarterback Jaxson Dart, who introduced Trump at a rally last Friday, met with the media. So did linebacker Abdul Carter, who expressed objection to Dart’s gesture. “So first off, I want to say that some things are bigger than football, and this is one of those things,” Carter said, via SNY. “Jaxson is one of our leaders. He’s the face of our franchise. He not only represents himself in what he does but he represents all of us. And that goes for anybody who wears a Giants uniform. But if he chooses to align himself with a man like President Trump, it’s my responsibility based on what I believe and what I stand on to not only show my teammates that I’m against that but to show the world.”
NFL bettors are bullish on these teams making a playoff leap in 2026 – SB Nation
It’s easy to get lost in the flurry of offseason news cycles, but not every transaction will pay out the dividends that NFL agents and GMs are forecasting. Before teams start lining up against each other this fall, FanDuel’s odds on NFL teams to make the playoffs are a useful measure of how well the market thinks each team’s offseason maneuvering has improved their chances of playing meaningful football in December and January.
