Texas A&M junior RHP posts career numbers in 17-2 win over Texas State

· Yahoo Sports

Texas A&M is headed to the College Station Regional Final on Sunday night after defeating Texas State 17-2 on Saturday night, and will now await tomorrow afternoon's contents between the Bobcats and USC before heading back to Blue Bell Park for the 8:00 p.m. contest.

Similar to Friday's slow start against the Lamar Cardinals, Texas A&M trailed 2-0 in the early innings after RHP Weston Moss allowed two solo home runs, but that would be the only scoring from Texas State for the rest of the night, thanks to Gavin Grahovac's second solo home run in the last two games, which started the Aggies' offensive onslaught.

Taking complete control at the plate, Texas A&M recorded 20 hits after just six on Friday, scoring 17 runs, as nearly every active player who entered the game recorded at least one hit.

However, after Grahovac's home run, Weston Moss locked in, now allowing another run, and just five hits and a walk the rest of the way in 7.1 innings. Even better, his career-high 10 strikeouts provided a glimpse of how good the junior starter can be when the offense shows life. Showing plenty of emotion, Moss was brilliant on the mound and will now wait and see if the Aggies can advance to the Super Regional Round.

With the news of star sophomore Aiden Sims' season-ending status, second-year coach Michael Earley should feel confident that at least one of his starters has stepped up when needed, despite giving up two home runs. Unsurprisingly, Moss received a standing ovation after exiting the game, knowing he did his job and that he is just one win away from the Super Regionals.

Texas A&M will face either USC or Texas State in the College Station Regional Final on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. CT.
