Cardinals-Cubs rivalry draws fans downtown for the weekend

ST. LOUIS – The Cardinals-Cubs rivalry brings more than just excitement to Busch Stadium. Fans from both sides fill downtown streets, restaurants, and bars, giving local businesses a boost during one of baseball’s most anticipated matchups.
Businesses near the stadium said they look forward to the rivalry series every year as Cardinals and Cubs fans pack downtown St. Louis before and after games.

“The Cubs-Cards series is always an uptick,” Patrick McGlynn, owner of Shamrock Pub, said. “Business was good this weekend. The crowds looked like a full house every night.”
McGlynn’s bar sits just blocks from Busch Stadium, and he said both the pub and surrounding parking lots stay busy throughout the weekend series as fans from Chicago and St. Louis gather downtown.

The longtime rivalry continues to draw passionate fans from both teams.
“I’ve been looking forward to this game a long time,” Cardinals fan Kyara Bailey said. “We already had the tickets, so I’m just excited to be here. I’m ready to see the Cards win today as well.”
Even with rain in the forecast, fans said they are still looking forward to the game and the bragging rights that come with a victory.
“Classic rivalry game, Cardinals-Cubs — you know what’s going on,” Cardinals fan Dez Brown said. “When we win tonight, we’re getting some Imo’s tonight!”
