According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Giants are signing free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. after the team had the veteran in for a visit on Monday.
"Reunion: Odell Beckham Jr. is returning to the New York Giants, the team he last played for in 2018. Beckham visited the team again on Monday, and is signing with New York," Schefter reported.
Beckham hasn't played in the NFL since 2024 with the Miami Dolphins, but has expressed interest in returning to the franchise that drafted him for most of the offseason. Beckham had two workouts with the Giants before they decided to sign him.
With all that said, why is now the time for New York to reunite with Beckham? Let's take a look.
Why Giants are reuniting with Odell Beckham Jr.
The Giants have been adamant about adding receiving talent for quarterback Jaxson Dart this offseason. Along with Beckham, New York has also signed tight end Isaiah Likely, and wide receivers Darnell Mooney, Calvin Austin III, and Braxton Berrios to support Dart.
Obviously, the Giants' receiver room is now incredibly crowded, so we'll see who ends up making the roster and playing meaningful snaps this season.
Injuries are also a major reason for the signing of Beckham. The Giants lost Gunner Olszewski for the season due to a torn Achilles suffered at OTAs, so his presence on special teams and quality depth in the receiver group needed to be replaced.
Malik Nabers' timetable to return is also uncertain. Nabers suffered a torn ACL in October last season, and though he was initially targeting a Week 1 return, head coach John Harbaugh is unsure whether that will come to fruition.
Overall, Beckham will compete for a spot on the Giants' roster and help the team throughout the offseason as injuries at receiver continue to pile up.
