Morton plays Waterloo at the 2A soccer super-sectional at Athens. A win sends the Potters (24-1-1) to state for the first time in program history.

“It’s real rewarding to feel all of our hard work finally pay off,” said junior Claire Ceresa. “And we just have to take it one game at a time, and then we’re there.”

Ceresa scored three times in Morton’s 5-0 win over Dunlap on Friday. The win gave the Potters just their third sectional in school history.

Waterloo (21-2) edged Springfield 3-2 to win its sectional title game at Alton on Friday.

“We work so hard and practice every single day. We’re in the weight room, we are practicing,” said senior co-captain Addy Blake. “We’re going over the (plays) over and over again.”
