Florida baseball picks up commitment from Jacksonville State relief pitcher Maddox McDougall

Florida baseball has landed a commitment from one of the top arms in the transfer portal.

Maddox McDougall, a right-hander, recorded a 2.76 ERA, 54 strikeouts and 18 walks in just over 49 innings of work as a sophomore at Jacksonville State. He announced his commitment on social media on Tuesday, June 9.

McDougall was rated the No. 29 best available player in the portal by Baseball America. The reliever who made 23 appearances and one start also recorded a 5-0 win-loss record.

The Wesley Chapel, Florida, native helped the Gamecocks win both the Conference USA regular season and conference tournament titles and finish with a 48-15 record.

McDougall is the second commitment from the portal for Florida as the Gators also added catcher Jon Embury from Florida Gulf Coast.

Embury batted .364 and hit 17 home runs along with 60 RBI, which led to him being named the ASUN Player of the Year.

So far Florida has had nine players enter the portal, but the two most significant are right-hander Cooper Walls and infielder Cade Kurland, who will likely pursue pro ball.

Walls, a transfer from Hawaii, made 17 appearances and 10 starts for UF, but finished the year with 7.17 ERA.
