Katy Perry calls butt-grabbing Justin Trudeau 'love of my life'

Nearly a year after their first dinner date in Montreal, Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry made their red carpet debut together in New York City.

The power couple stepped out in New York City at the Tribeca Festival for the premiere of the pop star’s new music documentary, Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris , a concert film that captures her most recent worldwide trek.

Clad in a black suit and white shirt, Trudeau went unrecognized by most onlookers as Perry, in a full-length white gown, signed autographs for fans. At one point, as they posed for photographers, Trudeau playfully rubbed Perry’s behind , which enraged some people on social media.

“W hat a classless pig!” one person declared, with another branding Trudeau a “creepy old geezer.”

“I s it just me or anyone else also feels the butt-touching is a bit uncomfortable to watch,” a third person asked.

“ Gross and degrading to cup her ass,” a fourth critic wrote. “This is not a relationship. It is a display.”

One video dubbed Trudeau “an absolute nobody” as he stood idly by as Perry signed autographs for her fans.

“Welcome to America Justin,” one person commented on the viral video. “A place where nobody gives a crap who you were.”

“ He ran Canada into a recession and left Carney to finish the job,” another X user remarked, referencing news that the country is now in a technical recession. “Now he’s photobombing Katy Perry at Tribeca.”

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight , the 54-year-old former prime minister said he watched Perry’s Lifetimes Tour three times, “but wasn’t really paying attention to anything but Katy. So I’m looking forward to seeing the show now for the first time.”

During the screening, fan-shot video from inside the theatre captured Perry, 41, embracing Trudeau as she sang her song Not Like the Movies to him.

Elsewhere, he was captured gazing up lovingly at his new girlfriend when she joined attendees in a sing-along of Dark Horse .

When the power went out at one point, Trudeau was beaming as he reached for her hand as she stood up and watched crowd’s impromptu performance of Crush .

‘I am very in love’

During a post-screening Q&A, Perry spoke about her personal journey in 2025, which saw her split from longtime fiancé Orlando Bloom before she started dating Trudeau.

“Every day is a fantastic journey, and every day is a chance to evolve and to be a better person and do the right thing and to be a model for your community, for your family, for your world,” Perry said according to multiple media outlets, including USA Today , Us Weekly and the Daily Mail .

“I would say now at the end of 91 shows, I feel like a more grounded person in so many aspects of my life. I am very in love,” she went on.

Perry said the Paris concert was filmed “after I met the love of my life.”

“So I felt very anchored by that,” Perry said. “I’m a little bit like a rainbow kite — I fly super high. Sometimes I need to be anchored, so to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now.”

She went on to call 2025 “one of the hardest years of my life.”

“I went through a f***-ton,” she candidly revealed. “And there were days that were really, really, really hard, and I just kept going because I made a promise to my fans, I made a promise to my daughter, I made a promise to myself. And I got through it. I walked through the fire because everybody has to walk through their own fire. And if you’re walking through hell, you keep going, because on the other side of hell is definitely heaven.”

Perry also said she became more of a role model to her 5-year-old daughter Daisy, whom she co-parents with Bloom, last year.

“If I’m out there living my most authentic, empowered, smart, sexy life, she’s gonna have a model to follow,” she said. “And any parent can do that. It’s really valuable to bring your kids to work.”

‘Katy loves that Justin laughs at her jokes’

Trudeau and Perry first sparked dating rumours when they were spotted having dinner in Montreal last July.

Shortly afterwards, photos and videos shared to social media showed the pair on various outings together.

The pair went Instagram official in December and an insider told Us Weekly earlier this month that Perry is “really happy right now.”

“Katy loves that Justin laughs at her jokes and understands her quirky humour,” the source says. “Her friends think he’s a good match for her. The future is definitely something they’ve talked about, and they’re both committed to seeing where this goes.”
