Mississauga man charged after firearm seized; Firearm, cash seized in Courtice

A 28-year-old Mississauga man has been charged with numerous offences after officers responded to a suspicious vehicle call early Sunday morning on the city’s west mountain.

Hamilton Police responded at 3:16 a.m. to the area of Elodia Court after a witness reported a suspicious vehicle had stopped in the neighbourhood.

Officers located a grey Honda parked on Elodia with its lights off and it was confirmed to be a stolen vehicle on file with Peel Regional Police.

As police attempted to investigate, cops alleged that the driver rammed a police cruiser and attempted to flee, continuing along Elodia and striking a second police cruiser, rendering both cruisers inoperable.

The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot but officers pursued and arrested him a short distance away.

Cops said the accused continued to resist police after being taken into custody and refused to identify himself.

During a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded Glock handgun on the front passenger seat.

Sammy Shaik has been charged with four weapons charges, dangerous operation of a vehicle, disguise with intent and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – stolen auto.

The investigation remains ongoing.

FIREARM, CASH SEIZED, MAN SOUGHT, WOMAN FACING CHARGES

A man is wanted and a female is facing charges following a firearm investigation in Courtice that began in May 2026

On Friday, Durham Regional Police said a search warrant was executed on a residence in Courtice. A firearm with ammunition and over $118,000 of Canadian currency was allegedly located and seized.

Daniella Burgher, 46, of Clarington, is charged with two firearm-related offences, while Robert Andrew Pinnock, 45, of Clarington, remains wanted for two firearm-related offences.

TORONTO MAN CHARGED WITH FRAUD

A 27-year-old Toronto man is facing charges after allegedly attempting to fraudulently open a bank account in Whitby.

On Thursday, around 4 p.m., Durham Regional Police responded to a fraud call at the CIBC at 308 Taunton Rd. E.

Bank staff contacted police after a male attended their location and attempted to open an account using fraudulent identification documents.

Officers arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody without incident. Police said a search of the suspect produced multiple banking cards not in his name.

At the time of his arrest, the accused was wanted by several other police services for similar offences and was also already bound by conditions not to possess any banking documents or cards unless in his name.

Rodrigo Martinez-Palacios is charged with fraud under $5,000, three counts of possess identity document of another, utter forged document, two counts of breach probation, and fail to comply with release order.
