The Stellenbosch community is mourning the passing of Brad Haller, a staff member at Paul Roos Gymnasium and a well-known figure within the school’s sporting programme.

News of Haller’s death was shared earlier this week, prompting an outpouring of condolences from schools, sporting organisations, former classmates and community members.

Extended sympathies

In a statement issued on 7 June, Paul Roos Gimnasium extended its sympathies to Haller’s family, friends and colleagues.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of one of our beloved and respected staff members, Brad Haller. Brad has been an integral part of the Paul Roos cricket community and sports office since 2021.

“As staff, learners and PRG community we mourn his passing, honour his contribution to PRG and extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.” the school said.

The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Cricket manager

Haller joined the Paul Roos Gymnasium sports office and cricket programme in 2021, where he served as cricket manager and played an important role in supporting the school’s sporting activities.

Tributes have described him as a dedicated and respected member of staff who made a meaningful contribution to the development of learners both on and off the sports field.

His passing has also been felt far beyond Stellenbosch, with his alma mater, Kingswood College, remembering Haller, a member of the Class of 2014.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Brad Haller, Class of 2014,” the organisation said in a statement.

The school described his death as a profound shock and extended condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Brad Haller, Class of 2014.

“Brad’s passing has come as a profound shock to all who knew him, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and loved ones as they come to terms with this heartbreaking loss.

“As fellow members of the Kingswood community, many of you will have shared classrooms, sports fields, boarding houses, friendships, and memories with Brad. He will be remembered with affection by those whose lives he touched during his time at Kingswood and beyond.

“At times like these, we are reminded of the strength of the bonds formed during our school years. We encourage you to keep Brad’s family in your thoughts and to reach out to one another for support if needed.

“On behalf of the Old Kingswoodian Club, we extend our sincere condolences to all who knew and loved him.

“May the many memories of Brad bring comfort in the days ahead.”

Memorial service

A memorial service will be held in the Japie Krige Hall at Paul Roos Gymnasium on Friday, 12 June, starting at 12:00.
