“She Is the Most Unlikable Player in Basketball”: Tyrone Johnson Tears Into Caitlin Clark’s Persistent Issues With Refs

Analyst Tyrone Johnson berated Caitlin Clark for getting a third technical foul of the season already against the Chicago Sky. In the third quarter, when the Indiana Fever trailed 53-36 to the away team, Clark was defended hard on her drive by Kamilla Cardoso and double-teamed by Azura Stevens. She believed she got fouled and punched the air, yelling“foul.” Johnson criticized the Iowa native for continuing her scuffles with officials.

Clark’s altercations with referees have been a recurring theme of the Fever games this season. Several analysts and fans have supported the Fever superstar, while others have called out her antics. Johnson was with the latter gang, as he expressed his dissatisfaction with her being compared to someone like Victor Wembanyama or LeBron James, who are more likable.

On his Saturday, June 13, episode of The Craig Carton Show, Johnson said:

“Caitlin Clark is also a villain. She is the most unlikable player, not in the WNBA, but in basketball. Say what you want Wemby, Wemby is infinitely more likable than Caitlin Clark, so is everyone else. LeBron James, infinitely more likable. All she does is whine to the refs and complain, and she should already be thrown out of games. I am not saying she is completely talentless; she has a ton of talent, she is not a likable player.”

Besides the tech, the Fever pulled off a stunner in overtime against the Sky, 114-106. Aliyah Boston led the team with 34 points and 12 rebounds, while Clark contributed 32 points and 10 assists, registering historic double-doubles. Notably, in the WNBA, a player is allowed seven technical fouls before an immediate one-game suspension.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time that Johnson has taken a dig at Clark. Earlier, he compared her rise in the league to what Jeremy Lin had in his career.

Tyrone Johnson earlier compared Caitlin Clark’s rise to Jeremy Lin

Earlier in May, Turone Johnson, in one of the editions of his show, compared Caitlin Clark’s rise to the top of the WNBA to what Jeremy Lin experienced in his career. He saw overnight success after the undrafted rookie finally got an opportunity due to an injury-ridden situation with the New York Knicks.

During this run, called Linsanity, Lin performed spectacularly, hitting game-winners and even outperforming Kobe Bryant in a few games. However, that phase quickly ran away, and so did his edge in the NBA. Tyrone Johnson stated that Clark’s run was akin to Lin’s phase. He said:

“She’s not the best guard in the WNBA! She’s Jeremy Lin! She decided to roll up with Morgan Wallen! This girl had the world by the balls!”

Caitlin Clark’s tussles with the refs are still persistent, and so are her shooting woes from the distance. However, the Fever have somehow managed to keep afloat in rough situations. Clark’s defense is also talked about a lot. Only time will tell how head coach Stephanie White manages when the season gets tougher.
