Jihaad Campbell could swap No. 30 for a familiar Eagles number
· Yahoo Sports
Jihaad Campbell arrived in Philadelphia wearing No. 30, but the Eagles linebacker may eventually have a chance to return to the number most closely associated with his college career. BleedingGreenNation, via Eliot Shorr Parks and Ed From Delco, reports that the No. 11 will be worn by a defensive player in 2026.
Campbell wore No. 11 at Alabama, where he developed into one of the most productive and versatile linebackers in the country before becoming a first-round pick. That number was not available when he joined the Eagles because A.J. Brown still owned it in Philadelphia. Brown’s blockbuster trade to the New England Patriots changed that conversation, creating a possible path for Campbell to reclaim the number he wore while becoming a first-team All-SEC defender.

Campbell goes back to the number he wore the majority of his college career

Nothing about a number change should be treated as official until the Eagles announce it or Campbell appears on the field wearing it. Still, the possibility is notable because jersey numbers matter to players, fans, and branding. For Campbell, No. 11 is tied to his rise at Alabama, where he led the Crimson Tide with 117 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and five sacks during the 2024 season. It was the number he wore as he became one of the top defensive prospects in his draft class and the first off-ball linebacker selected by the Eagles in the first round since Jerry Robinson in 1979.
Seems like there’s a new number 11 in town👀

If you go to create a custom Eagles jersey and go to the player drop down Jihaad Campbell automatically populates with 11

The timing also makes the discussion more interesting. Campbell is entering a critical summer after shoulder issues limited his offseason work for the second straight year. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio revealed during the offseason that Campbell was dealing with a shoulder injury, creating another reminder that the rookie’s full evaluation may not begin until training camp. That does not change his long-term importance, but it does make July and August more meaningful.
Philadelphia drafted Campbell because of his athletic profile, range, blitz ability, and potential to become a three-down linebacker in Fangio’s defense. The Eagles already have Zack Baun as a stabilizing presence, while Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Smael Mondon Jr., Chance Campbell, Deontae Lawson and Chandler Martin are also part of the linebacker competition. Campbell’s ceiling remains the highest in the room, but he must get healthy, handle the mental demands of the position, and earn Fangio’s trust before his role becomes as large as his draft status suggests.
A number switch from No. 30 to No. 11 would not change any of that. It would not make Campbell healthier, more assignment-sound, or more ready to take on a major workload. But it would give one of Philadelphia’s most important young defenders a familiar look as he begins trying to establish himself in the NFL.
There is also a symbolic layer because Brown’s trade marked a major roster shift for the Eagles. Brown wore No. 11 during one of the most productive wide receiver runs in franchise history, leaving Philadelphia after two Super Bowl appearances, All-Pro honors, Pro Bowls, and more than 5,000 receiving yards. His departure opened up space in the offense, altered the receiver room, and potentially freed up one of the most recognizable numbers on the roster.
If Campbell eventually takes it, the number would move from one era of Eagles football to another. Brown made No. 11 one of the most visible offensive numbers in Philadelphia. Campbell would be trying to make it part of the defense’s future.
For now, the bigger story remains Campbell’s development. He has the tools to become a major piece of the Eagles’ defensive core alongside Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Drew Mukuba, and others. Whether he wears No. 30 or No. 11, Philadelphia needs him to become the explosive second-level defender it envisioned when it made him a first-round pick.
Still, jersey changes have a way of catching attention during the quiet stretch before training camp. Campbell returning to No. 11 would be a small roster detail with real fan interest, especially given what the number meant to him at Alabama and what it has recently meant in Philadelphia.
The Eagles have not officially turned the page on Campbell’s number yet. But after Brown’s move to New England, the possibility is there.
